Who we are
Maplie is run by Jan Kokalj in Slovenia (EU), who is the controller of your personal data under the GDPR. Reach us at hello@maplie.app.
What we collect
Your email address and the name you give us. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your email address (with Apple, possibly a private relay address) and your name from them, and nothing else. Everything you add to the app: the links, pasted text and photos you import, the recipes we extract from them (including estimated nutrition), your edits, favorites, cookbooks, cookbook covers, grocery lists, and the baking trays you measure (their sizes, names and any photo you add). Feedback and problem reports you send, with any screenshots attached. Your language and unit preferences. Crash reports and app start-up performance data (device model, operating system and app version) so we can fix bugs. Usage analytics: which screens you open and which features you use (for example that you imported a recipe or added one to a cookbook), with your account's random id, device model, operating system, app version and rough country, but never your email, name or recipe contents. No contacts, no location, no advertising or cross-app tracking. If you join the waitlist on this site, we store your email only to tell you when the app launches.
How imports work
When you share a link, our service fetches that public post or page (text, images and, for videos, the video) and sends it to an AI provider to extract the recipe, its amounts and a nutrition estimate. Pasted text and photos go through the same step. The video is processed and discarded; we keep the cover image, the original text and a link to the source, and the photos you upload stay stored with your account so we can investigate imports that went wrong.
Why we use it
To provide the service you signed up for (the legal basis is our contract with you), and, on the basis of our legitimate interest, to keep it working: fixing crashes, investigating failed imports, and preventing abuse through the import limit; and to learn which features people use so we know what to improve. You can turn usage analytics off any time in Profile → Share usage analytics.
Who we share data with
Only the services that make the product work: Supabase (database, sign-in and file storage), Bright Data (fetching public social media posts), OpenRouter and the AI model provider it routes to (recipe extraction and nutrition estimates, and sorting feedback), Apple and Google (only if you sign in with them), Sweego (account emails), LinkSense (the links that open the app, including a shared recipe's title and photo for its link preview), Expo (crash and performance reports), Sentry (error and crash reports, stored in the EU), Mixpanel (usage analytics, stored in the EU) and Cloudflare (this website). Some of them process data outside the EU; where they do, they rely on safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses. We never sell your data or use it for ads. When you share a recipe, anyone who has its link can see that recipe and your display name, and can save their own copy of it; nothing else in your account is shown. Deleting the recipe or your account deletes its link, but a copy someone already saved is theirs and stays.
How long we keep it
For as long as you have an account. Deleting a single recipe removes it from your collection, but we keep the record until your account is deleted so we can investigate problems. Deleting your account removes all of it. Usage analytics are kept by Mixpanel under your account's random id only; once the account is deleted, nothing links that id back to you. Error and crash reports are kept by Sentry for up to 90 days, under that same id and with no recipe content.
Your rights and deleting your data
You can ask for a copy of your data, have it corrected or deleted, object to how we use it, or take it elsewhere. Email us for any of these. Delete your account any time in Profile → Delete account; it permanently removes your account, recipes, cookbooks, grocery lists, feedback and every photo we stored for you. Or email us and we'll do it for you. There are full details under deleting your account. You can also complain to your data protection authority; in Slovenia that is the Information Commissioner (Informacijski pooblaščenec).
